Students needed to express their emotion through an animated mix of images and text (typography, photographs, drawings) that captures emotion and intonation

Process
1. For my project, I chose the song by Nuages called "Dreams.". To make a storyboard, I made a list of the song phrases and cuts I would like to make, where "TEXT" stands for a typographical shot and "PHOTO" for a shot with drawings. I also calculated the number of shots and their probable length (excluding transition time).

2. Then I made a storyboard with 17 shots, where I described what will the shot includes and its time code.

Decisions
My main inspiration was “Claudia (Lyric Video)” by FINNEAS. The elements that he used in his clip were based on an animation style called collage. Therefore, my first idea was to create a collage out of electronically published newspapers and movies; however, I faced limitations in using internet resources.
I decided to stick with “solid” components for my work and keep it as simple as possible. I drew elements from the shots in Adobe Photoshop.
My main challenge was to work with a teammate during COVID-19; we were short on time. Therefore, I decided to combine different shots created individually on my own. It was challenging to put them in the correct time and audio flow, so I had to adjust them by either cutting shots or to add additional seconds (slowing down frames).
This is a process of creating a 14th shot (the 3 girls in 3 different locations). In total, there were more than 25 shapes that I animated for 2 seconds of the video
I worked on various cuts and transitions in my project, such as:
between 3 and 4 -cross blur
between 4 and 5 -wipe up
between 6 and 7 - fade to black
between 7 and 8 - circle open (Iris)
between 9 and 10 - circle close (Iris)
between 11 and 12 - cross blur

Takeaways
This project was the first project I had to work on when the lockdown started; therefore, I have faced some issues with connecting with my groupmate. However, from this experience, I learned many ways of better collaboration through online applications such as Discord & Google Documents, where we effectively shared our material.
